Press Release - October 22, 2003
London Knights launched
their brand new website today
October 22, 2003, London, Ontario, Canada - London Knights General
Manager Mark Hunter announced today that they launched the newly
designed website. The website has a new look with additional features.
With launch of the new website developed by Cyberteks Design,
the London Knights are continuing to provide a cutting-edge, accessible
website loaded with rich media content, which make it one of the
most technologically advanced sites in the hockey world. The previous
version of the website (also developed by Cyberteks Design) was
a finalist in the 2002 International New Media Festival Awards
Contest, and this new site builds on all the successes of the
first.
The first thing you will notice about the site is the new design.
One of the key new features of the site is its customizable interface,
which allows users of the enhanced site to personalize the site
to his/her liking. The Customize This Site page allows users to
select their favorite player, select the color of the top bar,
select the banner on the home page, and even personalize the site
by adding their name and jersey number. All custom settings are
saved and remembered for future visits.
Users of the enhanced site will also have access to the new game
summary animations on the home page. These 3D animations feature
the Knights mascot Sir-Scores-A-Lot going head to head with the
opposing team. Neither the game summary animations nor site customization
are available on any other OHL site.
The merchandise page features the unique London Knights Jersey
Customizer. This program allows users to see what their custom
jersey will look like as they customize it, and then add it straight
to their shopping cart. What makes this customizer truly unique
is that when users order a custom jersey, both the user and London
Knights receive an email with a picture of the jersey. This extra
functionality allows the London Knights staff to double check
for accuracy and has never been done before by any other company.
The database driven Flash event calendar gives users quick access
to all of the London Knights game times, scores and event information.
The calendar does not just provide information on a monthly basis,
using the next and previous month buttons users can look ahead
to future events, and even check scores from previous years. London
Knights staff through an administrative content management system
enters all of the information.
The interactive seating map on the tickets page gives users a
complete interactive layout of the John Labatt Centre. The map
also provides photographs taken from the seating sections, giving
users a snapshot of the view they would have of the game.
The interactive zone gives London Knights fans plenty of ways
to interact with their team. There is a full suite of Flash hockey
games, all of which give users a shot at a monthly prize. The
News Desktop is a standalone application that allows Knights fans
to stay in touch with their team, even when they're not visiting
the web site. This innovative program brings the latest news,
scores and even the event calendar right to the users desktop.
The desktop is integrated with the content management system,
enabling it to update itself - there is no maintenance. There
are also the Flash animated e-cards, which feature unique 3D animations
of the Knights mascot, allow users to send seasons greetings to
anyone with an e-mail address. No other OHL team has these advanced
features and applications.
The Kids Club Coloring Contest is open to children under 12 years
of age. The contest showcases the London Knights mascot (also
designed by Cyberteks Design.) Kids color in a picture of the
mascot and his castle using a Flash based paint system, which
uses a 21-color palette, however, the color mixer gives users
millions of color possibilities. There is a Photoshop-style eyedropper
tool, which allows the child to reuse colors they have already
mixed. Once the parent has filled out the contact form, the child's
colored picture is e-mailed to the London Knights for judging,
and prizes are awarded every month to the child who submitted
the best entry. The child also receives an e-mail containing their
colored picture so they can go back and looks at their creation
any time. No other company has developed a product like this.
